Iowans are having major luck these days, scratching their way to way to riches with Iowa Lottery scratch games. The latest is Dawn Spencer of Hiawatha who parlayed her love for solving crossword puzzles into a $50,000 payday.

Spencer played the "50,000 Super Crossword Game" and won, claiming her prize last Thursday at the Cedar Rapids regional office. The winning ticket came from a stack she bought at the Kwik Star, located at 1800 Blairs Ferry Rd. in Hiawatha.

Her husband's impatience (and sneakiness) paid off

Spencer says she was going to play a few and save some for later but her husband insisted she play them all at once. That persistence paid off in her becoming the 64th big winner of the game. Steve secretly also scanned each ticket with the Iowa lottery mobile app ahead of time and knew there were big winnings ahead before Dawn even scratched them. She said

I knew it was a little bit of a winner, I just didn’t know it was that big of a winner.”

They're going to blow all the money at once like any winner would do

Just kidding. Spencer says they haven't decided how to spend the riches, possibly on a future vacation, but for now, it's going to go straight into savings.

According to CBS 2, the "$50,000 Super Crossword" is a $5 game that features 78 top prizes.  There is more information about the "$50,000 Super Crossword" and other games, plus details about the odds of winning and the number of remaining top prizes here.
