The news that Lady Gaga had joined the cast of Wednesday Season 2 was revealed unofficially by Entertainment Weekly in November 2024.
At the time, Gaga was busy filming the season in Europe.
The news came after a remix of Gaga's 2011 Born This Way song "Bloody Mary" went wildly viral on TikTok alongside clips of Ortega's titular, straight-faced Wednesday dancing passionately in the supernatural teen drama.
Ironically, a year prior at the 2023 Golden Globes, Ortega shared that she hoped Gaga would join the series, and even speculated about a potential storyline for the pop superstar-turned-Oscar winner.
"I'm sure Netflix would love that. I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other," the actress told Variety.
Speaking at SXSW in March 2025, Ortega gushed about working with Gaga, saying, "It’s the best. She’s the best, definitely one of the most talented individuals I’ve ever worked with. It was just a really, really special environment to be there with her and Tim [Burton], two people that I respect and have been inspired by so much."
The first part of Wednesday Season 2 drops on Netflix on Aug. 2. A second part will being streaming on Sept. 3.
