The only inflation some of your favorite retailers want you to engage in this holiday season is that of your heart and stomach while stuffing your face in the company of loved ones.

This week, midwest-based grocer Aldi came out with its promise to "turn back time" (which we're literally doing for the annual transition out of daylight saving time this weekend, incidentally) and offer pre-pandemic, 2019 prices on Thanksgiving essentials. Not to be outdone, Wal-Mart has announced a similar move, a little less gimmicky but equally beneficial to consumers. According to Fox Business, the big box chain's angle is simple: you'll pay no more than you did in 2021 for turkey, stuffing, potatoes, and the like.

"Saving money is a top priority for our customers right now, so this year, we’re removing inflation on an entire basket containing traditional Thanksgiving items," John Laney, executive vice president of food at Walmart U.S. said in a blog post.

The "rollback" on Walmart's part will last until December 26, while Aldi will do their price rewind through November 29, in which holiday food including appetizers, desserts, sides, and beverages, are being discounted up to 30%.

Meanwhile, here's that list of retailers who will be closed on Thanksgiving itself, including all Hy-Vees for the first time in company history, so you can plan ahead.
