What Are the Most Stolen Vehicles in Iowa?
According to statistics from a report by Finance Buzz, the most stolen vehicle in the state of Iowa isn't a car. It's a truck.
The most stolen automobile in Iowa is the Chevy Silverado 1500. The Register reports that the Silverado was also the third most stolen vehicle in the entire US. Only two cars were stolen more than the popular Chevy truck.
The most stolen car in America is the Hyundai Elantra, followed by the Hyundai Sonata, according to the Register. What brand of cars are being stolen so far in 2025? The Register reports that from January through June of this year, the following car brands have been stolen the most.
- Chevrolet - 67
- Kia - 61
- Hyundai - 59
- Ford - 58
- Toyota - 28

Who is Stealing Vehicles in Iowa?
The Register reports that, along with an increase in vehicle thefts, the number of juveniles stealing cars is also going up. They often work in groups and learn how to steal cars by watching videos online. Law enforcement officials say many young people who steal cars think it's a game and don't understand the risks and consequences.

The Register reports that the Des Moines Police Department recommends the following tips to prevent your car from being stolen.
- Park in well-lit areas.
- Close and lock all windows and doors when parked.
- Hide or remove valuable items from your car.
- Do not leave keys in your vehicle.
- Do not leave the area with your vehicle running.
