Iowa Man Stabs Cat, “God Told Me To Do it”
I'm a Christian. I believe in divine intervention. Crazy, beautiful, miraculous things happen in this world, and sometimes, there's no logical explanation for it all.
I also believe that drugs make people do and say really stupid, awful things from time to time. This time around, I'm definitely going with the latter as the explanation.
As reported by KCCI, a West Des Moines man "man stabbed a cat to death after he said God spoke to him and told him to do it." At least, that's what he supposedly told the police.
Travis Drew Allessi, a 35-year-old from West Des Moines, is being charged with animal abuse after stabbing the feline. Allegedly, the criminal act took place on June 3.
Law enforcement said that he called 911 to report that he had stabbed the cat to death. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Allessi with scratches all over his forearms, according to KCCI.
The authorities also said they found the deceased cat inside his vehicle.
Allessi was arrested Monday, August 29 in the morning. He is currently being held at Polk County Jail.
Based on the county jail's website and profile on Allessi, the six-foot, 270-pound man has not had his bail set at this time.
This is what Lawyers.com says in regards to the penalty for animal abuse in Iowa: "Animal abuse is generally considered a serious misdemeanor (punishable by a fine of $430-$2,560 and/or up to one year in jail). However, torture or any abuse that leads to an animal's serious injury or death is considered an aggravated misdemeanor (punishable by up to two years imprisonment plus a fine of $855-$8,540) for a first offense or a Class D felony (punishable by up to five years in prison plus a fine of $1,025-$10,245) if you've previously been convicted of animal mistreatment or certain related crimes."
