Thanksgiving is right around the corner and soon you'll be busting out your favorite eating pants. If you're anything like me, you're looking forward to stuffing your face full of food and not worrying for one second about the possible increase in the waistline area. If you're a dog parent, it can be a lot of fun to let your fur baby in on the Thanksgiving festivities.

It's the perfect time to spoil them and let them feel the love in and around the house. While you shower your dog with the holiday spirit, it's important to remember there are a lot of Thanksgiving foods your dog shouldn't eat on the big day.

My parents love our family dog so much, they make her, her own Thanksgiving meal. It's pretty crazy how spoiled she is, to be honest. We aren't always great about what we feed her and which table scraps we allow her to eat but I'm hoping you and I can both avoid a trip to the vet this Thanksgiving.

If you want to give your dog a few special treats on Thanksgiving, these foods have been deemed safe and healthy, according to the American Kennel Club.

  • Sweet Potatoes - they are a great source of dietary fiber, vitamin B6, and vitamin C
  • Potatoes - Give only boiled or baked potatoes with no butter, sour cream, salt, or pepper, and serve in moderation
  • Apples - They are full of vitamins A and C and contain lots of great fiber.
  • Turkey Meat (No Bones or Skin) - Turkey is safe for your dog as long as it has not been prepared with any seasoning. You should also skip out on feeding the skin and avoid all bones
  • Plain Peas - I know some humans won't eat them and they wouldn't dream of feeding them to their dog but plain peas are okay. Just avoid feeding your fur baby creamed peas

While it may be tempting to give your dog a special meal around the holidays, you'd rather be safe than sorry, and you should avoid giving your dog anything that may be dangerous. According to the American Kennel Club, these foods are either not safe for your dog, or contain unhealthy ingredients.
