The entire world was left in shock on Thursday, September 8th when the Queen of England passed away at the age of 96. According to reports, her majesty passed away peacefully at her Scottish holiday home, Balmoral Castle.

All of the living U.S. President's released statements on their social media accounts regarding her passing.

President Biden said:

"Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was more than a monarch. She defined an era. In a world of constant change, she was a steadying presence and a source of comfort and pride for generations of Britons, including many who have never

known their country without her."

Former President Donald Trump said,

“Queen Elizabeth’s historic and remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain. Her leadership and enduring diplomacy secured and advanced alliances with the United States and countries around the world. However, she will always be remembered for her faithfulness to her country and her unwavering devotion to her fellow countrymen and women. Melania and I will always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty’s generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor. What a grand and beautiful lady she was—there was nobody like her!”

Obama released a joint statement with Michelle, where he said;

"Time and again, we were struck by her warmth, the way she put people at ease, and how she brought her considerable humor and charm to moments of great pomp and circumstance."

Even Bill Clinton chimed in as well. He was the President during a very difficult time for the royal family.

"We will always be grateful for the kindness she showed us through the years, particularly during our visits to Buckingham Palace in 1995 and 2000, and for all she did to deepen the Special Relationship."

During her seventy year reign, the Queen met with every single American President since Truman except for Lyndon B. Johnson. One interesting meeting she had with a former American political figure might have been her ONLY interaction with an Iowan.

She probably met a few others here and there but this one was probably the most important...

According to ABC, Elizabeth met former President and Iowa native Herbert Hoover five years right after she ascended to the throne. On October 21st, 1957 the city of New York held a major celebration for the young Queen.

She was given a ticker tape parade up along lower Broadway as well as an official welcome at city hall. Following that American officials held a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel where she met the Mayor of New York and former President Hoover.

The event, according to reports, consisted of nearly two thousand guests. Also, the menu for this huge party  seemed pretty fancy. It included lobster bisque Waldorf with brandy, squab chicken Manhattan with wild rice and tiny green peas.

The Iowa politician left office when Elizabeth was just six years old and was 52 years her senior.

According to the Herbert Hoover Library blog, this was when the Queen made her first formal visit to North America as monarch. She made stops in Canada, Virginia, Washington D.C., and New York City.

Another key Iowa political figure spoke about Elizabeth II's death.

Governor Kim Reynolds released a statement on Thursday (September 8th) regarding the passing of the late monarch.

“Today we recognize the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth II. She was a remarkable and steadfast woman who fought side by side with the United States through some of the Free World’s most trying times. I’ll always admire her fortitude, love of freedom, and tenacity that has inspired other women in leadership.  Kevin and I join with Iowans in sharing our condolences to the Royal Family.”
