College football season is back!

For all of us in the Cedar Valley, especially Cedar Falls that means we're gearing up to root for UNI.

The Panthers will kick off the 2024-2025 season with a home game against the Valparaiso Beacons in the UNI Dome at 4:00 PM.

If you plan to cheer on the University of Northern Iowa Panthers in person this season, there is one important change you should keep in mind.

Officials from the college announced in early August that there would be a new clear bag policy for UNI home games and "non-athletic events held inside the UNI-Dome and McLeod Center."

This new policy would go into place at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.

"With security personnel able to identify items without extensive bag searches, attendees can enter the venue more quickly and reduce waiting times," said Brooke Croshier-Sidebotham, the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations.

"The goal of this clear bag policy is to help keep everyone safe and speed up security protocols when entering our venues."

What Is the New Policy Exactly?

If you are heading to the UNI Dome for some football, the bag you bring in with you must be one of the following:

  • Clear bags made of plastic, vinyl or PVC that do not exceed a 12 x 6 x 12 inch size
  • One-gallon, resealable, clear plastic storage bags
  • Small bags (not necessarily clear) that do not exceed a size 4.5 x 6.5 inches

For more details about game day policies, make sure to check out the college's official website.

What Items Are Not Permitted in the UNI Dome & McLeod Center?

According to University of Northern Iowa officials, the following bags are not permitted:

  • Purses
  • Backpacks
  • Printed Pattern Plastic Bags
  • Tinted Plastic Bags
  • Duffle Bags
  • Fanny Packs
  • Reusable Grocery Totes
  • Mesh or Straw Bags
  • Large totes and cases (for camera, binoculars, etc.)

An exception can be made for a medical necessity once inspected at the gates.
