Local Woman Pleads to Murdering Ex-Husband

An Independence woman, charged with murdering her ex-husband, has pleaded not guilty, and a trial date has been set for next year.

32-year-old Hillary Hunziker is accused of stabbing Jason Hunziker, after breaking into his Independence home on November 6th. The couple had been in a custody fight over their young child; after stabbing Jason, Hillary fled with the child, but was later found and arrested.

Jason sustained several stab wounds, and was pronounced dead from his injuries.

At a hearing in Buchanan County District Court on Tuesday, Hillary pleaded not-guilty to the first degree murder charge. Her trial was then set for January 10th.
