As ScreenCrush managing editor Matt Singer recently noted, March is now the beginning of the summer movie season. That means saying goodbye to all the middling horror movies, low-concept boutique pictures, and genre films we used to see in March and cutting straight to the $100 million dollar blockbusters that are looking for any competitive edge. Last year, the big release at the end of March was the gloomy Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice; this year we’re going to get the gentler kid’s version of that movie in Power Rangers, a film about people in bulky suits and flying machines fighting CGI monsters. It’s kind of a nice parallel.

And with the Power Rangers movie just around the corner, the clips are coming fast and furious. Yesterday, Lionsgate (via Heroic Hollywood) released two brand new television spots on YouTube for your viewing pleasure.

While the last few Power Rangers clips have been an odd mish-mash of humor and grim action sequences, these two trailers make Power Rangers look like two completely different movies. The first clip, “Time for Power,” shows the Rangers in battle with Rita Repulsa’s monsters and plenty of PG-13 violence. The second clip, “Unleash,” aims for more of the coming-of-age comedy about the ridiculous situation that the teenagers find themselves in. If you’re a parent looking to experiment, show each of your kids a different one of these two trailers and see how it correlates to their experience of watching the movie.

As with all things, the final version of Power Rangers will probably fall somewhere in the middle, but its success might just hinge on how willing it is to embrace comedy over action. Fans of the original Power Rangers series are no stranger to camp, and those just looking for an afternoon at the movies will probably appreciate humor more than a watered down version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I can’t wait to see how this one goes down with audiences.

Here’s the full plot synopsis for Power Rangers:

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraoridnary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as Power Rangers.

Power Rangers will blast into theaters on March 24, 2017.
