Four different traffic incidents have now claimed five lives in eastern Iowa, over a five-day period.

The latest crash involved four vehicles and happened around 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, January 12. The driver of a Jeep Cherokee was traveling eastbound on I-80 at mile marker 213 (near the Marengo exit) when they struck a snowplow from the Iowa Department of Transportation. According to an Iowa State Patrol accident report, the plow "was on the left shoulder conducting a slow-moving interstate maintenance project."

52-year-old David Dellamuth of Williamsburg, the snowplow driver, was injured. He was transported to the Marengo hospital for treatment. The driver of the Jeep was killed in the accident. Their name has not been released pending notification of relatives. Those in the other two vehicles were not injured.

One Person Was Killed in an Accident in Marion

Wednesday afternoon, January 11, one person was killed in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 100 and East Post Road in Marion. A car was turning from southbound East Post Road onto eastbound Highway 100 when it was struck by a semitrailer. The semi was traveling in the westbound lanes of Highway 100 and, according to KCRG, struck the car on the driver's side.

The driver of the car was killed in the crash, which happened just after 2:15 p.m. The victim's name has not yet been released. The man driving the semi was charged with Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.

Cedar Rapids Man Killed on I-380

A crash on northbound I-380 just before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, January 10, killed 37-year-old Eric Taylor of Cedar Rapids. He was killed when his Volvo rear-ended a semi that had slowed due to a towing operation several miles ahead.

Two People Killed in 16-Vehicle Accident on I-80

Two people, from eastern Iowa and Texas, were killed during a series of chain reaction accidents on I-80 in Iowa City on Sunday morning, January 8. A semi jackknifed on westbound I-80, blocking all three lanes, just before 5:30 a.m. A series of accidents followed.

57-year-old David Mosinski of Fairfield, Iowa was killed when he crashed into the trailer of the jackknifed semi. Junier Caballero-Venero of Houston, Texas was a passenger in the semi. He was killed after exiting the vehicle. All other injuries were minor.
