After two weeks in COVID-19 quarantine, UNI sophomore quarterback Will McElvain was scheduled to be back under center this week for the Panthers' game at South Dakota.

His return will have to wait.

Friday night's game against the Coyotes at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D., has been canceled by the Missouri Valley Football Conference. League officials said in a press release that the game won't be played due to a positive COVID-19 test result and subsequent contact tracing in South Dakota's Tier 1 personnel, which consists of student-athletes, coaches, managers and staff. The game will not be rescheduled.

Now, the Panthers will begin preparations for the one game that remains on their schedule. UNI next hosts three-time defending national champion North Dakota State at the UNI-Dome on April 10. Kick-off on Stan Sheriff Field is at 4 PM.

The Panthers improved their record to 3-3 with a 34-20 victory at Western Illinois on Saturday.
