The Buchanan County Sheriff is charging a couple of area motorists in two recent, but separate accidents.

On Saturday (Feb. 20) deputies were called out at about 6am to a vehicle reported in a ditch, on 190th Street, south of Littleton. A pickup driven by Tracy Wirtz of Maynard, went out of control, entered a ditch, going over a field drive embankment, and came to rest in the ditch. Wirtz sustained minor injuries; he was later charged with failure to maintain control.

And on Thursday (Feb. 18) shortly after 1:30pm, officers were dispatched to an accident scene on Fairbank-Amish Boulevard, east of Fairbank, where a car driven by Gary Miller of LaPorte City, was slowing down to turn into a driveway.

A car following Miller, driven by Gordon Earley Junior of Fairbank, swerved to avoid a collision, but clipped the right rear of Miller's car. Earley's car then went into the ditch, through a fence, coming to rest in a field. No one was injured, but Early was charged with failure to stop in an assured clear distance.
