American Heartland Theme Park and Resort will be built in phases over the next few years. Here's what we know.

The 1,000-acre development will include a 320-acre Three Ponies RV Park and Campground. It promises to be the largest campground in the central part of the United States with 750 spaces for RVs and 300 cabins.

The theme park itself will be 125 acres and, according to Business Wire, "will feature an Americana-themed environment with a variety of entertaining rides, live shows, family attractions, waterways as well as restaurant-quality food and beverage offerings." American Heartland Theme Park will have six "American lands". They will be Great Plains, Bayou Bay, Big Timber Falls, Stony Point Harbor, Liberty Village, and Electropolis.

Business Wire says the design team for the new development includes over 20 former Disney Parks builders and Walt Disney Imagineers. The design firms involved in the project have previously worked on parks for Six Flags, Universal Studios, and Disney Parks.

American Heartland Theme Park and Resort will be built along Route 66, just west of Grand Lake, in northeast Oklahoma. That's a little under 6 hours from Des Moines, Iowa, just over 6 hours from Lincoln, Nebraska, and about 10 hours from Madison, Wisconsin.

Phase one of construction will be the RV park, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2025. The theme park and resort are expected to open in 2026. A 300-room hotel and indoor water park are also part of the plans for the development.
