Two Southwest Wisconsin men have been injured, one of them seriously, in a boating accident in Clayton County.


Officers with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources were called to the boating incident at about 4:30pm Saturday (Sept. 5), on the Mississippi River in Clayton County.

The boat apparently hit a large wake, which ejected the passenger into the water, and also injured the operator. The passenger was unconscious in the river.

The operator of the boat, whose name was not released, was airlifted to University Hospitals in Iowa City with serious injuries. The passenger was taken by ambulance to a Wisconsin hospital, where he was treated and released.

Both men are from Cassville; their names have not been released.

According to the DNR, both men were wearing personal flotation devices when the accident happened, which likely saved the life of the passenger.
The Iowa DNR continues to investigate the accident.
