The Waterloo Black Hawks netted an exciting overtime road win in Cedar Rapids Saturday night. Waterloo returns to Young Arena this afternoon to face the Omaha Lancers.

Waterloo's Mason Palmer scored 1:49 into overtime, boosting the Waterloo Black Hawks to a 3-2 road victory over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.

Garrett Wait blocked a shot in the defensive zone, sending the puck the opposite direction with Garrett Klee leading the rush. Klee slowed in the right circle, before connecting with Palmer, who redirected the feed into the net past Blake Pietila.

On a night when shots were difficult to come by, Palmer’s chance was Waterloo’s 25th of the game. The Hawks’ Jared Moe earned the win with a dozen stops as the Hawks held the RoughRiders to 14 chances.

The win helped lift the Black Hawks back into fourth place in the United States Hockey League's Western Conference. A win this afternoon would move them past Omaha into third place.

Waterloo’s three-game weekend concludes Sunday against the Omaha Lancers, who currently hold the third spot in the Western Conference. The puck drops at 3:05 PM. The game at Young Arena will feature Alvin and the Chipmunks, presented by U.S. Bank, as well as discounts on selected concession items.
