The Waterloo Warriors high school varsity hockey team won their opening round game of the Midwest High School Hockey League Championship Tournament. Their semifinal game is Saturday.

A four-goal opening period helped Waterloo jump out to an early lead that they never relinquished. The Warriors added four more goals to secure the 8-3 win over the Kansas City Jets at the ISU Ice Arena in Ames, Iowa.

Kyle Schott was a big part of the four-goal opening period netting a hat trick before the first intermission. The three goals were score over a short 3:34 period late in the first. ended the game with 7 points (4G, 3A).

Cade Saeugling finished the quarterfinal game with 3 points (2G, 1A). Drew Westphal and Nick Samuelson each added a goal to the final score.

Goalie Dawson Sturch stopped 25 of 28 shots he face from Kansas City.

Waterloo's semifinal game is scheduled for Saturday (March 4) at noon against the Omaha Jr. Lancers (semifinal game update). If they win, the championship game is slated for Sunday at 11:00 AM. Lose and the Warriors will play in the third place game at 9:00 AM.
