Time is running out for area residents to file a claim in a lawsuit involving a financial scam.

According to the sheriff's offices in Fayette and Clayton Counties, they are working with victims who lost funds in financial scams that happened between January of 2004 and January of 2017, and involved Western Union.

Victims of these scams may be able to recover some of their lost money from this lawsuit. Residents who have sent money out of state or out of the country in these scams are asked to contact law enforcement.

These incidents could involve contact by telephone, internet, or written scams.

The deadline for filing a claim is February 12th. Victims are asked to contact the local sheriff's office for more information.
