Fire Destroys Oelwein Man’s Home, Possessions

An Oelwein man has lost his home and all of his possessions to a house fire.

Firecrews from Oelwein, with assistance from Maynard, were called out at about 8am Wednesday (March 9th), to the Troy Richards home, at 127 1st Avenue NW, when neighbors reported smoke coming from the structure.

Richards was not home at the time, and no one was injured.

Firefighters were on the scene for most of the morning dousing the blaze, which totaled the home and all of it's contents.

The cause of the blaze was apparently a space heater, located in the bedroom. The fire then spread into the attic and the rest of the home.
