This Sunday is Easter, and Iowa's local grocery store chain Hy-Vee is hoping to feed those less fortunate with the help of area first responders. They're teaming up to giveaway 500 free hams, to be distributed for free, just in time for an Easter Sunday family dinner.

It's part of Hy-Vee's annual One Step Hams For The Holidays campaign and is taking place at Veteran's Memorial Stadium on Wednesday March 31 starting at 5:00 p.m.

Iowa's News Now reports the Cedar Rapids distribution is one of 15 locations across eight states where Hy-Vee is planning to deliver almost 5,000 hams to support hunger-relief efforts in local communities served.

It is just one of the latest ways that Hy-Vee is digging in to help local communities. For many years now the grocery chain has made a deep commitment to helping out in a wide variety of ways.

They offer scholarships for high school and college students through the Hy-Vee Foundation.

They actively recruit current military members and veterans to their workforce and support vets with Hy-Vee Homefront.

They have been long supporters of multiple charitable organizations, including the Junior Diabetic Research Foundation (JDRF) and the American Red Cross.

Another noble undertaking is Hy-Vee's support of the Honor Flights which regularly sends WWII and other military veterans traveling to pay respects in Washington DC to their fallen comrades.

It's a telling sign of Hy-Vee's true nature when you see and realize how deeply involved they are with each community they serve. Its obvious that Iowa is fortunate to have such a devoted corporate entity helping out in so many useful ways.
