Let's get one thing out of the way right away: I am not anti-tomato. I don't love tomatoes, but I'll eat them. I've told you in the past I don't much like ketchup, but a good salsa is a joy to eat with corn tortilla chips.

With that out of the way, let's talk about a new study that finds there's a scenario, and no it's not with tortilla chips, where Iowans prefer salsa to ranch. Pausing for you to gasp... I know, right? Crazy!

Let's first start off with the study. It comes to us from a group called e-conolight. Yeah, a lighting company did a study on food. Not sure why either. In any event, they are actually exploring each state's preferred charcuterie board ingredients.

In the lighting company's charcuterie study (weird, weird sentence), they explore, among other things, what dip/spread each state likes best to accompany their meat, olives, bread, and cheese.

Ranch is a selection for a couple of states. Ranch was picked, according to this study, by six different U.S. states. AGAIN, this means it was an option in the study.

Iowa, however, chose salsa as our most desired charcuterie dip. Now, I'm not one to judge people's food habits, but really? Who in their right mind would dip salami or prosciutto? Who'd dip a green olive in friggin' tomato juice?

Honestly, while ranch sounds like a better option, hummus sounds like the best. At least in my opinion. Hummus got little love in the study, but if you're like me and that's what you'd dip your charcuterie options in, we need to move to Washington DC or Massachusettes I guess.

Dine on, Iowa! Dine on salsa...
