Mother Nature has not been cooperating with our outdoor spring endeavors, to say the least, and you might have heard Netflix is raising rates and cracking down on sharing the love of watching a flick on-demand. It's also reported they are considering adding commercials. Sort of defeats why most people joined Netflix in the first place, so despite gas prices still being sky high, it may be time and money better spent for movie-lovers and families to hop in the car and go to the drive-in together.

Iowa still has a few such theaters, and with one exception you'll learn about later, most of them are officially open as of this weekend.

61 Drive-in, Delmar

It's all about fun at 61, and they don't just have movies! They offer a swing set, sandboxes, tetherball, whiffle ball, basketball, volleyball, train rides, and of course, concessions. Credit cards are accepted.

Admission prices once they open:

  • Adults (20+): $9
  • Students (13-19): $7
  • Children (4-12): $5
  • Children (3-under): FREE

Call their "movie line" to find out what's playing at (563)674-4367.

Newton's Valle Drive-in is in limbo

We Are Iowa says the Valle took a hit due to recent tornadoes, with damage to the screen, the fence, the marquee, and the building. It's uncertain when they will be ready to welcome back visitors. In an interview with the Newton Daily News, the owners said they are working with insurance companies and contractors but cannot give exact timelines. They hope to open by mid-summer, which is great news! We wish them well and hope to see them back in business soon!

We also hope Mother Nature and gas prices can get themselves sorted out soon to make for a more fun Spring and Summer here in Iowa.

Palisades-Kepler State Park in the Fall

I took a drive out to Palisades-Kepler State Park in Mount Vernon to capture some of the beautiful fall colors before winter takes over. I hope you enjoy the scenery as much as I did!
