The COVID-19 pandemic continues to worsen in Iowa with the state reporting that three new hospitalization records have been set in the last 24 hours.

The Iowa Department of Public Health reports there are now 777 people in Iowa hospitals that are being treated for coronavirus. That represents a new high.

The state set another unenviable record with 164 new coronavirus hospitalizations over the last 24 hours. That is 72 more than were admitted the day before. According to our news partner, Iowa's News Now, the previous record for hospitalizations in the state in a 24-hour period was 128 people on Saturday, October 31.

Iowa has also set a new record with 182 people being treated for coronavirus in Intensive Care Units (ICU) around the state. That number was 170 the day before, which was also a record. The 182 ICU patients in the state represent nearly 35 percent of the total 524 Intensive Care Unit beds available in Iowa. There are currently 63 people on ventilators in the state.
