Career Night From Bennett Stirtz Pushes Iowa Past Oregon
When your basketball team has a go-to guy like Bennett Stirtz, sometimes the game seems easier. Need to stop a run? Get it to Stirtz. Shot clock winding down? Get it to Stirtz. Need a Big Ten road win? The Hawkeyes got the ball to Bennett Stirtz.
Career Night By Iowa Guard Bennett Stirtz
The Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball team began its two-game West Coast trip with a stop at Oregon on Sunday night. The Hawkeyes made quick work of these 'not so mighty' Ducks. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Iowa handed Oregon its eighth straight Big Ten loss, 84-66, on Sunday night. A big reason was a career night from senior guard Bennett Stirtz. The Gazette reports that Stirtz scored a career high of 32 points and seven assists.
Just how well did Stirtz shoot the ball? He was 12 of 15 from the floor, including 4 of 6 from three-point range.
Four Hawkeyes Score in Double Figures
Stitz got some help on Sunday night. The Gazette reports that four other Hawkeyes scored in double digits. Alvaro Folgueiras had 15, Cooper Koch had 10, and Brendan Hausen scored 11 points. The win was Iowa's fourth in a row, after dropping three straight in Big Ten play.
One More West Coast Game
The Hawkeyes have a couple of days off before they take on Washington on Wednesday night at 10 p.m., Iowa time, according to the Gazette. They return home to Carver Hawkeye Arena on Sunday, February 8th, to host Northwestern.
