E. Iowa Nursing Home Director Steals Enough Opiates to Kill Ten

I'm one of the very few people I've ever met that have taken any sort of opiate and felt little to nothing. While waiting for surgery in 2019, my doctor prescribed hydrocodone, and after trying a few, I went right back to the generic painkillers you find at your local drug store or Walmart.

In some ways, I consider myself lucky. In a nation that has had a disease-caused pandemic, we also have an opiate-induced one. According to the National Library of Medicine, approximately three million people in the U.S. and 16 million people worldwide are addicted to the drugs.

Unfortunately, you can count Laura Entsminger as one of those people.

The nursing home director in Davenport was caught stealing 27 hydrocodone pills from one of the residents Oakwood Place Assisted Living. WHO13 reports that an affidavit claims "Entsminger on or about July 15, 2022 to Aug. 8, 2022, obtained or tried to obtain a prescription drug by 'engaging in fraud, deceit, misrepresentation or subterfuge.'"

This is what Mayo Clinic's website had to say about hydrocodone: "

Hydrocodone belongs to the group of medicines called narcotic analgesics (pain medicines). It acts on the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain, and stops or prevents cough.

When hydrocodone is used for a long time, it may become habit-forming, causing mental or physical dependence."

For the alleged offense, Entsminger is facing a Class C Felony which could result in 10 years in prison along with a fine.

She was let out of the Scott County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
