Homecoming Shock: Star Iowa Alumni’s Surprise Return Leaves Fans in Awe
Iowa City was packed over the weekend for the University of Iowa's homecoming game, and fans were in for an awesome surprise.
On Saturday, October 26th the Iowa football team absolutely destroyed Northwestern in a 40 to 14 point game.
Fans all across the state were celebrating this massive win.
Many of them were also celebrating the return of some big alumni.
Return of the Goat, the Glue, and the Spark
Former Iowa Hawkeye star Gabbie Marshall posted a video on her Tik Tok account that sent Iowa fans into a frenzy.
This short clip includes keys players from the record breaking 2023-2024 women's basketball team Gabbie, Kate Martin, Caitlin Clark, and Jada Gyamfi.
Both Clark and Martin were drafted to the WNBA after the championship matchup between South Carolina. Marshall opted to retire from basketball and pursue a Masters in occupational therapy in North Carolina, according to reports.
Gyamfi is the only one of these ladies who is still playing for Iowa.
The girls were reuniting just in time for Homecoming on Saturday.
Hmmmmm.....what could this mean?
In the leadup to the game, the players from last year's basketball team received their championship rings.
During the actual matchup against Northwestern, the 2023-2024 national runners up in women's college basketball were honored.
Fans roared for this highly accomplished group of women at Kinnick Stadium.
Of course the cheers were a bit rowdier when the camera panned to WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark.
Just around a year ago, this team broke records in that very stadium during Crossover at Kinnick.
55,646 fans packed Kinnick Stadium for this exhibition game against DePaul which was dubbed the first women’s basketball game to be played in an outdoor football stadium.
Iowa doubled the NCAA’s former single-game attendance record on October 15th, 2023.
It was nice to see some of our favorites return to their alma mater to support their school.
