A Floyd County man is facing a laundry list of serious charges after a weekend incident involving assault, drugs, a chase, and more.

At about 6am Sunday (March 6th), the Floyd County Sheriff was called to a domestic assault that happened north of Rockford. A man reportedly hit a woman, then left.

Arriving law enforcement found that a vehicle had gone through a ditch and crashed into a mailbox, then fled the scene.

Authorities were able to locate a cell phone number, and began tracking the suspect, later identified as 38 year old Jason Weitzel of Rockford.

Weitzel reportedly called others and made threats that he would return to the residence.

The occupants immediately left, and the sheriff, along with 6 Iowa State Troopers and aircraft, searched the area between Nora Spings and Rockford.

Weitzel's vehicle was located by a deputy and a trooper, who gave chase. During the pursuit, Weitzel threw narcotics out the car window.

Weitzel was eventually arrested and charged with: strangulation domestic abuse assault, threat of terrorism, carrying weapons, OWI, possession of meth and drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended, no registration, having fraudulent plates, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and no insurance.

Weitzel is being held in the Floyd County jail; the case is still under investigation and more charges are pending.
