The Oelwein Community School board has scheduled a special meeting for this afternoon.

The board will approve a resolution to call for an election for a renewed Revenue Purpose Statement.

The meeting, which is by teleconference, begins at 3:30pm.

An RPS is required by the state, to explain how the school district spends it's tax dollars.
Superintendent Dan Dierks has a proposal to use the money generated from the tax, to do an extensive makeover of the school district, including some construction work and shifting some grades to other buildings. The plan costs an estimated $8 million, but homeowners' current tax rates will not go up.

The current RPS will expire in the fall; the board is looking at April 5th for a special election to renew the RPS. To qualify for that election date, proper documents have to be filed by 5pm today, hence the special board meeting this afternoon.
