Spilled Milk Closes NE Iowa Highway
An accident early this morning (Tuesday, March 8th)involving a truck hauling milk containers, shut down a busy highway for several hours.
It happened at about 2am, east of West Union on Highway 18 in rural Fayette County. A semi loaded with containers of milk, went out of control and rolled onto the highway.
The driver, 29 year old Charlie Craver of Amarillo, Texas, was treated at the West Union hospital for minor injuries. The semi and trailer are considered a total loss.
Multiple gallon containers of milk spilled into the ditch; the rest were salvaged by the West Union Fire Department. Highway 18 was closed down for about 3 hours until the road was cleared.
Craver was charged with failure to maintain control.
The Fayette County Sheriff was assisted by the West Union Fire Department, Clermont Fire Department, and TriState Ambulance.
