Flood warnings continue for the Cedar River at Cedar Falls and the Wapsipinicon River at Independence, but the water is going down at both locations.

The latest information from the National Weather Service shows the Wapsi crested at 14.8 feet Wednesday around 4:30 AM. That about two-feet below earlier projections. Flood stage at Independence is 12 feet.

In Cedar Falls, city officials confirmed the Cedar River crested at 91.4 feet Tuesday evening. That's about 1.5 feet above the 89-foot flood stage.

Here is information on the northeast Iowa flood warnings still in effect:

Cedar River at Cedar Falls

* At 3:45 AM CDT Wednesday the stage was 89.7 feet and falling.
* Flood stage is 89.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 3:45 AM CDT Wednesday was 90.9 feet.
* Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage Wednesday evening and continue falling to 80.6 feet Wednesday evening.

Wapsipinicon River at Independence
* Until Thursday evening.
* At 3:30 AM CDT Wednesday the stage was 14.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 3:30 AM CDT Wednesday was 14.8 feet.
* Forecast...The river is near crest as of 430 AM Wednesday. The river is expected to fall below flood stage just after midnight Wednesday and continue falling to 6.2 feet Thursday evening.

With flood water receding, there is some good news for campers who are planning to spend the long Labor Day holiday weekend at George Wyth State Park in Waterloo. According to Iowa Department of Natural Resources officials, the park will reopen Thursday at 10 AM. Some picnic areas and trails might still be closed into the weekend due to flooding of the Cedar River. Sections of trails could also be washed out.
