On Friday, the University of Iowa reported a fresh 500 new cases of COVID-19 according to Iowa News Now. That brings the schools total cases to 607 so far in this young semester and new school year. The number of employee positive COVID-19 cases is now at 11.

The school has 40 students in quarantine and 19 in self isolation as they recover from their symptoms. It's directly as a result of returning college students that cases across the state have spiked - prompting Gov. Reynolds to close bars in several college counties, including Black Hawk, until case totals settle down. Because of the new positive cases at the University of Iowa, Iowa City and Johnson county are experiencing a large surge in positive COVID-19 case totals.
