UPS Van Goes into Ditch Due to Deer in Oelwein

Another accident involving a deer in Oelwein, illustrates why it may be better to just hit the animal, instead of swerving, causing a more serious accident.
It happened Saturday (Oct. 3rd) in the 2500 block of Highway 150 South, on the south side of Oelwein.

A 2012 UPS van, driven by Mark Franzen, was southbound, when he swerved to miss a deer in the road. This sent the van into the east ditch, where it came to rest.
There was no indication of injuries, but there was $4,000 damage to the UPS van.

Oelwein Police are investigating some vandalism. The criminal mischief was reported just before 3am Saturday, from the ten block of 2nd Street NW. No other information was released.
