A Clermont man, wanted for allegedly breaking into a Clermont home over the weekend and seriously injuring the resident, has turned himself in to authorities.

The incident happened at about 9:30pm Sunday; the Fayette county sheriff got a report of a burglary in progress at a residence in Clermont.

An investigation determined that 41 year old Mathew Durnan of Clermont had broken into a woman's home through the back door, and assaulted her; she sustained serious injuries. Durnan then fled before authorities arrived.

The woman, whose name was not released, was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An arrest warrant was issued for Durnan, who faces charges of burglary in the first degree, domestic abuse causing serious injury, and violation of a no-contact order.

According to a Tuesday afternoon news release, Durnan turned himself in to the Fayette county sheriff's office, and is now awaiting his initial court appearance.

If convicted, Durnan could be sentenced to up to 28 years in prison.
