Firefighters can't work from home, and the certainly can't social distance while working. That's why it's quite concerning that a Waterloo firefighter has now tested positive for COVID-19.

According to KWWL, city officials made the announcement Tuesday that a member of Waterloo Fire Rescue had tested positive for the coronavirus. There's no specific information about the firefighter due to privacy laws.

According to a press release from the City of Waterloo,

The department has been practicing social distancing, self-screening, frequent handwashing and routine cleaning in accordance with and in some cases beyond CDC and public health guidance since mid-March. Fire and ambulance personnel are also following very specific guidelines and protocols related to the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while responding to all calls for service.

I know we're ALL thankful for all our first responders do, and we wish this firefighter a safe, and speedy recovery!
