Voters in Hazleton went to the polls in a special election yesterday, to fill 2 vacancies on the city council, and it was a very close call.


For the council seat with the term ending on December 31st of this year, Gene Seiffert defeated Christopher Hayzlett, 79 to 68.

There were 3 on the ballot for council member with a term ending December 31st of 2017, and the outcome was:

Ronald Vawter, the winner, with 76 votes, followed by Troy McAllister with 71, and Randy Blume with 1.

According to Buchanan County Auditor Cindy Gosse, a canvass of the votes will take place Monday.
