112-year-old Fish in Minnesota Shatters Age Record
Scientists used some carbon dating & found a bigmouth buffalo (Buffalo Fish) that lived to be 112 years old -- crushing the previous record --- which was 26.
That makes the bigmouth buffalo, which is native to North America, the oldest validated freshwater bony fish.
In this study, five bigmouth buffalo were found that lived over 100 years of age, but a 22-pound female caught near Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, became the 112-year-old record-setter.
They can be found in Iowa, mainly in the Mississippi. But others have been caught in the Iowa River near Marshalltown, and also in Blackhawk County, according to the Iowa DNR.
