7 Ways To Re-Purpose Your Leftover Halloween Candy
I have a confession to make. I ate a lot of candy corn this weekend. While I've expressed my disdain for the stuff before, it's definitely nowhere near the bottom as far as Halloween candy is concerned (I can think of at least five or six "treats" that are worse). Plus, I would've felt guilty about taking the last few Fun Size Snickers bars.
That said, you probably have been hoarding leftover Halloween candy for the past few days (your secret is safe with me...as long as your kids can't see this). And rather than just straight-up stuffing your face with it, Parenting Magazine has come up with 25 resourceful ways to put that leftover candy to good use.
- Freeze it. Add those tiny candies to milkshakes, sundaes, or even plain cookie dough.
- Bake it into cakes or brownies. Try mixing peanut butter cups or fun size candy bars into the batter, put them on top of cakes, or mix them into frosting. Try some recipes HERE.
- Create DIY trail mix. Add bite-size candies such as M&Ms to pretzels, dried fruit and nuts.
- Use it as a learning tool. Let your kiddos practice their counting skills by using things like Hershey's Kisses or Reese's Pieces.
- Use it for your children's parties. Fill a piñata with some of that spare candy, or make a board game using the candy as playing pieces.
- Incorporate it into your Thanksgiving meal. Instead of putting marshmallows on your sweet potatoes, Parenting suggests trying leftover candy corn as an alternative (???).
- Create your own booze. Put a few pieces of candy into a glass container or mason jar (Skittles would probably taste the best, but who am I to judge?), and fill the rest with vodka. Close the lid, let it steep for a few days...and ta-da! Homemade alcohol!
I'm not gonna lie, these are all pretty creative. Get even more ideas here.
