Be Careful When Fishing on the Ice in March

Ice fishing is already amongst the most dangerous outdoor sports and according to Field and Stream, this is especially the case in March. This is when the ice pack is deteriorating.

Even during the height of winter, it can be a dangerous sport.

Back in January, in the Green Bay area of Wisconsin, a group of roughly 40 people was fishing on a chunk of ice connected to the shoreline near Point Comfort along the east shore of the Bay of Green Bay when the patch of ice they were on broke off and floated away.

By the time every person had been rescued, the piece of ice had floated about a mile away from the shore. No one was hurt in the process of rescue.

Because ice can be unpredictable at times, it’s recommended that people phone for conditions first.
