A BREWtiful Cup… How Do You Take Your Coffee?
Coffee’s origin in the United States dates back to the 18th Century, but it really didn’t start gaining in popularity until the Boston Tea Party. Correct, we owe our coffee obsession to British rule! That’s when we made the major shift from tea to coffee. In fact, after the Party, it became “patriotic” to drink coffee over tea.
Fast forward. Americans consume more than 400 million cups of coffee per day. Now that’s a caffeine rush! But wait….gone are the days when people simply ask for a black coffee with two sugars. More than half of today’s coffee orders are specialty drinks. We’re talking about lattes, mochas, espressos, and cappuccinos. Let’s not forget the surge in iced and frozen coffee drinks. The flavors abound! Is anybody getting the urge for an afternoon pick me up? Don’t procaffinate! No, I didn’t say procrastinate. I said procaffinate. Procaffinating is the tendency to not start ANYTHING until you’ve had your cup of coffee!
My caffeinated passion happens to be vanilla iced coffee with cream. No sugar. The vanilla makes it sweet enough. Being new to the Cedar Valley, I haven’t yet had the opportunity to explore the coffee shops to satisfy my habit.
On my list to visit here in the Valley are: Starbucks, Sidecar, Cup of Joe, Caribou and Fat Cup. Am I missing any? Common all you friends of JOE, help me out!
