Area Farmer Discovers Fatal Crash Under a Bridge
A Northeast Iowa woman has died in a one-vehicle accident in Winneshiek County.
The accident was reported to authorities at about 2:30pm Wednesday (Dec. 2).
According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff's office, 72 year old Peggie Krumme of Decorah was driving an SUV on County Road W-14 north of St. Lucas in southern Winneshiek County, when her 2013 Ford Escape left the road, entered a ditch, struck a rock embankment, and came to rest under a bridge in a dry creek bed.
The accident was discovered by a local farmer who was doing field work. Krumme was found dead at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff was assisted by the St. Lucas Fire Department, Winneshiek County Ambulance Service, and area first responders.
