Waterloo took a snowy trip to Dubuque on Friday night and came back with a win...then the Black Hawks blanked the Fighting Saints on Saturday night at home...

SATURDAY VS. DUBUQUE AT HOME IN YOUNG ARENA

The Waterloo Black Hawks powered past the Dubuque Fighting Saints and to a 5-0 win Saturday night at Young Arena. The result was Waterloo’s third victory in a five-day span.

Goaltender Jared Moe has had two shut-outs in the past three games. Saturday, he made 25 saves. For the week, he turned aside 69 of 71 shots.

The Black Hawks had scores from Vladislav Firstov, Hank Sorensen and Wyatt Schingoethe. Plus, Ryan Drkulec and Matt Cameron added to the five goal total.

FRIDAY AT DUBUQUE

The Black Hawks were out of the building and the last goal of a 4-2 Friday victory over Dubuque had not been added to the Mystique Ice Center scoreboard.

Matej Blumel scored his second of the period – from center ice into an open net during a power play less than a second before time expired – to seal the win. Although the call on the ice appeared to be a “good goal,” the teams left their benches for their respective locker rooms, and the game determined to be over. Blumel’s game-winner earlier in the third made the empty-netter possible. Jared Moe stopped 23 other shots in the Black Hawks net for the win.

The Black Hawks are now tied with Des Moines for 2nd place in the Western Conference with 48 points, six points behind division leading Tri-City with 54 points.

JARED MOE GETS HONORED

Jared Moe helped Waterloo in the USHL Western Conference standings last week; his three performances gave him a boost in the team’s record book and led the United States Hockey League to name him "Goaltender of the Week.

Adding up the week, Moe’s 69 saves on 71 shots divide out to a 97.2% save percentage. For the year, he now ranks fifth in the league in goals-against average (2.81), is tied for fifth in save percentage (90.5%), and is seventh in wins (13).

Moe also moved into a tie on the Hawks’ junior era wins list; his 36 regular season victories match C.J. Motte for fourth in the club record book. His five shutouts equal Motte, Cal Petersen, Robbie Beydoun, and Drew O’Connell for third in that category.
