An Eastern Iowa Mexican Restaurant Closes Second Location

If you're a fan of the Mexican restaurant El Bajio in Cedar Rapids, there's now only one that you can visit. According to a new article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette, El Bajio has closed the newer of their two locations.

El Bajio first announced that they would be opening a new restaurant back in the spring of 2022. Their first location, which opened in 2016 at 555 Gateway Place SW, was such a success that they decided to expand. The second restaurant began welcoming customers at 1140 Blairs Ferry Road NE in September of last year.

On November 9th, El Bajio surprised customers by announcing on Facebook that November 10th would be their last day in business at the Blairs Ferry Road location. The post reads:

"We are saddened to make this decision. There have been months of many ups and downs economically speaking, but also personally. That is why we have made the decision to maintain a single location to continue being part of the small business community."

The original El Bajio Mexican Restaurant in Southwest Cedar Rapids continues to maintain high ratings, thanks to over 1,300 Google Reviews. It has a 4.5-star overall rating and is one of the highest-rated Mexican restaurants in the area on Yelp. Thankfully, it will remain unchanged and open for business. El Bajio at 555 Gateway Place SW is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday & Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can check out the restaurant's menu HERE.
