“Mozzarella Sticks For Everybody!” Cubs Broadcaster Buys Iowa Bar Snack After Play
Sports broadcasting can have it's fun moments, especially in baseball this time of the year.
You never know when you may get free mozzarella sticks. According to MLB.com, it happened after a play in the 5th inning of the Cubs vs. Brewers game.
It was when Milwaukee's catcher, William Contreras, stepped up to the plate with 2 men on and one out. Cubs broadcasters Jim Deshaies and Jon “Boog” Sciambi were chatting and Deshaies mentioned that he feels like, at least once a game, William Contreras hits a ground ball to shortstop.
Sciambi counted with "JD how about this. If he hits a ground ball to short to start the 6-4-3 … will you buy mozzarella sticks for everybody at The Corner Taproom?"
Deshaies agreed and Sciambi agreed to split the cost.
The Very Next Pitch
And sure enough, he'd no sooner said it than Contreras hit a ground ball to shortstop. So the broadcasters held up on their deal to buy The Corner Taproom mozz sticks.
If you're wondering why The Corner Taproom: it's in Cubs pitcher Colin Rea's hometown of Cascade, Iowa, since Rea induced the ground ball. It does have 'Cheese Stix' on the menu, in it's restaurant space connected to a Happy Joe's.
