This story started out terrible but it's starting to correct itself.

On Monday, a ninth-grader named Ahmed Mohamed brought a homemade clock he’d built the night before to McArthur High School in Irving, Texas.

After the 14-year-old excitedly showed a teacher his invention, he was surprised to be whisked out of class in handcuffs by cops, one of whom allegedly said, “Yup, that’s who I thought it was,“ when Ahmed was pointed out and accused of making a bomb.

Police then interrogated him and just yesterday decided not to press charges, although Irving’s police chief expressed no regrets for his department’s actions, saying, “We live in an age where you can’t take things like that to school.“

Ahmed’s detention attracted the attention of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, as well as President Obama:

Social media has supported Ahmed with the #IStandByAhmed hashtag, and Mark Zuckerberg also invited him to Facebook headquarters, praising his ingenuity.

Ahmed is considering switching high schools (shocking) and says he wants to attend MIT.
