The new Iowa high school girls basketball rankings feature 12 teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa.

Three squads from the region are at the top of the Class 2A poll for a second-straight week. Defending state champion Dike-New Hartford (No. 1), Grundy Center (No. 2) and Denver (No. 3) lead the survey. Denver kept its ranking despite last week's 53-35 loss to the top-ranked Wolverines at home.

Two other North Iowa Cedar League teams are ranked behind their conference competitors. Jesup fell three spots to No. 13 after suffering its first loss of the season. Aplington-Parkersburg is No. 14, the same position it held last week.

In Class 5A, metro rivals Waterloo West and Cedar Falls are both ranked among the top 10. West remained at No. 2 after recording three decisive wins over the week, one of which was a 68-46 victory at Johnsburg, Ill., in suburban Chicago. The Tigers fell six spots from No.3 to No. 9 following an loss to unranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

Other area teams ranked from the region are East Buchanan (No. 11 in Class 1A), Central Elkader (No. 13 in Class 1A), Center Point-Urbana (No. 5 in Class 3A), Vinton-Shellsburg (No. 11 in Class 3A) and Waverly-Shell Rock (No. 10 in Class 4A).

The new survey was released Thursday afternoon by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU).
