Another Reason Why Iowa Loves Dolly Parton

One thing we can all agree on is that Dolly Parton is an exceptional human being. The singer's well-known charity is actually expanding to help out children in Black Hawk County.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is teaming up with the United Way Black Hawk Region to instill in children a love for reading.

Parton's Imagination Library all started in 1995 when the singer wanted to help the children of her home county in East Tennessee. The program sends out a specifically selected and age-appropriate book once a month directly to the children registered.

This program provides a child with a book each month, from birth until they turn 5.

The program has grown immensely over the past decades; from giving roughly 2,000 books to the children of her home in Tennessee to more than one million kids across four countries.

Dolly created the program as a tribute to her father,

"He was the smartest man I've ever known. But I knew in my heart that his inability to read probably kept him from seeing all of his dreams come true," the singer explained.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is now available for children in Black Hawk County. The United Way Blackhawk Region partnered with the Dollywood Foundation to give kids in our neck of the woods a love for reading.

There are 43 Imagination Library affiliates in the state of Iowa. The affiliate recently established in Black Hawk County is a project done through the local United Way and the Cedar Falls Community Foundation
