As the district championship races get closer to the finish line and the playoff field begins to take shape, the outcome of each game is getting more important.

Week six of the high school football season got off an early start in eastern Iowa with two games Thursday night involving area teams. Iowa City High, the No. 3 team in Class 5A (Associated Press poll), returned from the Quad Cities with a 42-0 shutout of Davenport North and Cedar Rapids Washington celebrated Homecoming with a 20-19 victory over Clear Creek-Amana.

The marquee match-up this week is a battle of rated rivals in Class 5A. On Friday night, No. 2 Cedar Rapids Kennedy hosts No. 7 Cedar Falls at Kingston Stadium.
