According to KCRG, Hy-Vee announced that they will be donating over a million pounds of food to food banks in Iowa and others across the midwest. More than 20 truckloads of food and supplies will be dispersed among 17 Feeding America-affiliated food banks.

To make this happen Hy-Vee reportedly partnered with its national and regional food suppliers. Iowa food banks receiving donations include:

  • Food Bank of Iowa in Des Moines
  • Food Bank of Iowa in Ottumwa
  • HACAP Food Reservoir in Hiawatha
  • Northeast Iowa Food Bank in Waterloo
  • River Bend Food Bank in Davenport

Food bank deliveries will begin Monday and continue through December 16. That's not the only giving that the grocer will be doing either. They also announced that they will be giving away 3,000 holiday meals this week via a drive-thru event. Those in need can pick up a meal kit that will feed a family of four on Tuesday, December 15th at Cedar Rapids and Marion Hy-Vee locations. You can find out more about how to get one and what all is in the kit here.

There's no better way to get in the holiday spirit than to give to those who need it most. Nice job Hy-Vee.
