It took overtime for the Michigan State Spartans to beat the Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team.  The 71-69 loss was the first of the season for the Hawks at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

At the end of the first half, the Iowa Hawkeyes (16-5, 5-3) led at halftime, 30-26.  Roy Devin Marble scored 21 points, but was held scoreless during the final 10 minutes of regulation.  As time expired in regulation, Marble had a chance to put Michigan State (19-2, 8-1) away.  He drove to the bucket, but his drive to the bucket bounced out.

With the Hawkeyes down by two, Mike Gesell drove to the bucket, he missed the layup at the buzzer.

 

Despite the loss, it was an exciting game featuring 16 lead changes and 11 ties.

Next Up: Iowa travels to Champaign, Ill., to take on Illinois on Feb. 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CT) on BTN.
