As an Iowan, this is a list I can get behind. Iowa gets called a lot of things, but smug and snobby are never really one of them.  A study by Zippia recently looked at the most and least snobby states in America.

I am proud to say Iowa is one of the least Snobby States in the USA.

How They Got These Numbers

The key things this study looked at are as follows:

  • Percent of the population with a bachelor’s degree
  • Percent of degree earners with a degree in arts and humanities
  • Number of Ivy League colleges
  • Gallons of wine consumed yearly

First, Zippia examined education using data from the ACS. They opted to find the overall percentage of the population in each state with a college degree. They went on to say,

While there are a lot of great things with college degrees and the arts, they also do increase the rate of snobbiness, scientifically. We then decided to incorporate the number of ivy league colleges in each state. Once again, an Ivy League education is great, but there is a understandable smug factor.

They really did look at the wine numbers too.

To determine how much wine each state consumes, we took the gallons of table wine drank in each state according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. From there, we converted gallons into bottles, since that is the more standard purchase of wine. Roughly 1 gallon = 5 bottles of wine. However, since some states are home to a lot of people and others a lot less, we then took into account the number of bottles consumed per capita.

Iowa Stingray Home

This home is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It holds two tanks, both around 300 gallons each. They both contain different types of stingrays. As for right now, this project is just for fun, though the owners do hope to someday breed these rays.

It's been about a 6-month process getting all the supplies, tanks, and stingrays.
